Payment solutions for online stores & dtc brands

How each solution supports online stores & dtc brands

See what each option adds to the way your business takes and tracks payments.

Square Online (websites)

For online stores & dtc brands: Give customers an online storefront for online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales, with ordering and fulfillment choices suited to your business. Square Online gives online stores a website with pickup, shipping and local delivery, and Square says in-store sales, online orders and inventory connect automatically. That keeps products sold mainly online from overselling across channels. Roots Payments builds the store, product pages and shipping rules.
  • Build product pages with photos, variants and descriptions
  • Set shipping zones, pickup windows and local delivery radius
  • Connect your domain and basic on-page SEO

Square for Retail

For online stores & dtc brands: Connect online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales to a retail catalog, stock tracking and customer purchase history. Square describes Square for Retail as a POS to "sell more and stay stocked with a POS designed for retail." For online stores, that means products sold mainly online tracked in one catalog with stock synced between the counter and online. Roots Payments, an independent Square Reseller, builds the catalog, configures the plan and hardware, and supports your team after launch.
  • Import and clean up your catalog of products sold mainly online
  • Map your workflow to Square Free, Plus or Premium before you commit
  • Configure barcode labels, scanners, printers and cash drawers

Square Inventory

For online stores & dtc brands: Track online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales with item-level stock records and replenishment workflows. Online stores carry products sold mainly online, and small counting errors turn into lost sales or dead stock. Square's inventory tools track stock in real time, print barcode labels and report COGS, sell-through and aging stock. Roots Payments builds the item structure and counting routine so the numbers stay right.
  • Design variants and SKUs so reports roll up correctly
  • Set up vendors, reorder points and purchase orders
  • Label existing stock and run the first full count with you

Square Integrations

For online stores & dtc brands: Connect Square transaction data with the tools used to manage online orders, store stock and refunds, reducing repeated data entry. Square's App Marketplace connects the POS to accounting, ecommerce and other tools. Accounting sync is the most common; ecommerce sync matters if you also sell on another platform. Roots Payments picks the apps, connects them and checks that data lands correctly.
  • Recommend apps from Square's App Marketplace
  • Connect and map accounts, taxes and categories
  • Test sync with real sales

Custom Development on Square

For online stores & dtc brands: Build a Square-based payment workflow around online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales, with custom software for your operating process. When an app doesn't exist, Square's APIs let developers build on catalog, inventory, orders and payments. Common builds connect a headless storefront to Square or a configured payment gateway, or sync orders with a 3PL. Roots Payments scopes, builds and supports the custom work.
  • Scope the build and quote it up front
  • Build and test in Square's sandbox
  • Deploy and monitor

Square Marketing

For online stores & dtc brands: Build opt-in campaigns for online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales, from new offerings to reminders for returning customers. Square Marketing sends email and text campaigns from the same customer list your POS builds. For online stores, that means announcing new arrivals, restocks and sales to the people who already buy from you. Roots Payments builds the list, templates and automations.
  • Import and segment your customer list
  • Build branded templates
  • Set up automations for new and lapsed customers

Square Loyalty

For online stores & dtc brands: Create a rewards program around online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales, with earning rules tied to how customers shop. Square Loyalty rewards customers by visit, spend or item, and Square says it helps you "reward returning customers and encourage future visits." A spend-based reward, such as $10 off after $200, works well for shops with repeat buyers. Roots Payments designs the reward rules and sets up enrollment at checkout.
  • Design reward tiers that protect your margin
  • Set up enrollment prompts at checkout
  • Link loyalty to marketing campaigns

For online stores & dtc brands: Add online checkout for online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales, with order references carried through payment and fulfillment. Ecommerce payments connect your website or online store to a partner-provided merchant account arranged by Roots and gateway. Card-not-present orders carry more fraud and chargeback risk than in-store sales. Roots Payments sets up checkout, fraud tools and reporting.
  • Connect your store platform
  • Set fraud rules for your ticket size
  • Test checkout and refunds

Multi-Currency Payments

For online stores & dtc brands: Collect online orders, in-store purchases and marketplace sales in the currencies your customers use and reconcile them against the original order or invoice. Multi-currency checkout shows prices and charges cards in the shopper's currency, which can lift conversion on international orders. Card-not-present orders carry more fraud and chargeback risk than in-store sales. Roots Payments sets up currency, settlement and fraud rules.
  • Pick the currencies your shoppers use
  • Connect checkout
  • Set fraud rules for cross-border orders
